Product leaders, what an event!

As product management continues to evolve, more and more product leaders like you are emerging as organisations embrace your ability to impact the business. Yet while support for the wider product management community continues to grow by leaps and bounds there is still a lack of opportunities for leaders to come together with their peers and discuss the challenges unique to product leadership.

So, we were delighted to see the return of our#mtpcon London pre-conference Leadership Forum (exclusively for product leaders) on Thursday, 19th October.

This event saw leaders levelling up their leadership skills, learning how to build better products, and grow successful teams and was a unique and rare opportunity for leaders to come together with their peers, discuss and learn from one another, and make lasting connections.

And wow, was it brilliant!

Georgie Smallwood Chief Product Officer at Moonpig Group Talk topic: Cross-discipline collaboration Let’s face it – our teams’ work is ambiguous. When we aren’t communicating well, others around us don’t get it, and soon, it feels like a product against the world—sales, marketing, design, engineering, legal, etc. We need to communicate and do so well. Let’s talk about how we can connect with our peers who see the business differently and leverage their points of view to improve our products.   About Georgie Georgie Smallwood is the Chief Product and Technology Officer at Moonpig Group PLC (MOON.L) She leads the product, data and engineering teams to deliver the ultimate gifting companion in UK, NL, IRE, AUS. Whether it’s a personalised card, a bunch of flowers or just a reminder to send your thoughts to a friend, a Moonpig Moment matters more- as 1 in 7 people in the UK will tell you! She is a passionate supporter of Women in Technology & leadership positions, and through her advising and investing roles she primarily focuses on female founders and co-founders to drive equality of funding and diversity of thought in the technology space. This passion led to the founding of Auxilia – a network for current and future female founders. Matt LeMay Author of Product Management in Practice Talk topic: Developing your product team  Hiring, training, and coaching – nailing these things makes everything else easier; missing even one makes an uphill climb even higher. These concepts are often in the job description of leadership, but they undersell how much they affect every decision you make. Not only that, the team suffers – a demoralized team is a team that can’t perform. We will have a candid conversation about identifying and implementing strategies to get our teams well-designed and improving. We will be open to coaching to improve product managers, not burnt-out ones.   About Matt Matt LeMay is an internationally recognised product leader, author, and consultant. He is the author of Agile for Everybody (O’Reilly Media, 2018) and Product Management in Practice (Second Edition O’Reilly Media, 2022), and has worked to build and scale product management practices at companies like Spotify, Google, Mailchimp, and SumUp. Matt is the creator of the One Page / One Hour Pledge, a commitment to minimize busywork and maximize collaboration that has been adopted by over 100 individuals and teams at Amazon, Walmart, Adobe, and more. Adam Warburton Chief Product Officer at Vypr Talk topic: Connecting vision and strategy to action We know the definitions. We’ve read Empowered. Some of us may have even read a strategy book or two – however, connecting the dots between vision, strategy, and operations is rough – and today, it matters more than ever as budgets are slashed. The ability to pick winners is prized above others. Let’s dig into how to turn the words we’re using into action and turn vision and strategy into the force multipliers there are.   About Adam Adam Warburton serves as the Chief Product Officer at Vypr, a role that allows him to delve into the complexities of consumer behaviour and market trends to help brands build products customers love. Passionate about crafting compelling product visions, he’s equally adept at translating those high-level ideas into actionable strategies. Adam understands the subtle intricacies of aligning a product team’s vision and strategy with their day-to-day responsibilities. As both a Mind the Product trainer and an organiser of ProductTank Manchester, he relishes the opportunity to share ideas and war stories. His aim? To help us all evolve our craft, placing a greater emphasis on the impact we make rather than the theories and frameworks we follow. Tobias Freudenreich Product Leadership Coach & Consultant About Tobias Tobias Freudenreich has been working in the digital industry for over 20 years and has held a variety of product management and leadership roles over the years. Today, as an independent product leadership coach and consultant, he helps product people and their organisations continuously grow and develop successful products. Alongside his work, he is also co-organiser of ProductTank Hamburg, co-moderator of the Product at Heart conference and host of the German podcast series “Produktmenschen.” Jason Knight Product Consultant at One Knight Consulting About Jason Jason Knight and is the creator, host, producer, editor and promoter of the One Knight in Product podcast. A fireside chat style podcast where he aims to speak to people in and around product management, get their perspectives, learn from their experiences and share their stories. He’s built disruptive products for years, including biometric survey platforms (voice and face tracking), self-service survey platforms (sort of like Qualtrics), data-science backed trend prediction SaaS, building APIs for financial services firms to automate their onboarding and helping business leaders create a positive working culture and empowering employees to lead more fulfilling lives. More than anything he’s a complete product management nerd; He loves speaking about all things product management related, learning from other people’s perspectives (and of course now sharing them with others). Previously her specialty was data-informed design and experimentation. Now she focuses on design systems, operations, and product accessibility. Chris Lukassen Chief Product Officer at Expandior About Chris From coding real time operating systems to running nine teams in a multi-million product development, from garage start-ups to global giants like TomTom and SAAB, from utter failure to CES award winning products.
